Huawei Watch 4 has a health feature even the Apple Watch can't offer — but there's a catch - Tom's Guide

(Image credit: Huawei) Non-invasive glucose monitoring on smartwatches seems to have been in the pipeline for a long time, with little to show for it. Rumors that it could appear on the Apple Watch go back years, but so far it hasn’t made an appearance. Now it sounds like Huawei has beaten Apple to the punch. Over on Weibo one Huawei executive claims that the newly-launched Huawei Watch 4 has a built-in glucose monitoring feature. More to the point, it’s supposed to be a non-invasive glucose monitor that doesn’t require any additional hardware to operate. Though there's a catch. The Huawei Watch can't read your blood glucose levels directly. Instead the company says it'll measure 10 specific health metrics, in as little as 60 seconds, to detect signs that blood sugar is too high. So if it detects that you are at risk of hyperglycaemia, the Huawei Watch 4 will warn you about it. Metrics measured by this feature include heart rate, pulse wave characteristics “

Wear OS 4 prepares to color your smartwatches with an Android 12 feature - Android Authority

Rita El Khoury / Android Authority TL;DR Google is adding a new dynamic theming option to Wear OS 4. When enabled, it will apply Android’s Material You color scheme across the Wear OS UI. That means icons in settings and other elements in the UI will be accented in the colors of the watch face. We know that Google’s next big update to the Wear OS platform will come in the form of Wear OS 4 . Google announced the next-gen software alongside the Pixel 7a launch at I/O 2023. The company didn’t reveal much about what we should expect, but folks at 9to5Google have dug up a small feature that would make the software UI more consistent with Android on smartphones. Google has released a preview of Wear OS 4 for OEMs through the Android Studio emulator. A teardown of this preview has unearthed an upcoming setting on Wear OS smartwatches — “Enable Dynamic Theme.” Toggling on the option applies Android’s Material You color scheme to various parts of the UI. 9To5Google observ

Huawei Watch 4 series supports a health-related feature that is important to many diabetics - PhoneArena

For years we've been writing about the one health-related feature that could make the most popular watch in the world even more popular. Apple has reportedly been working on a way to add non-invasive blood sugar monitoring to the Apple Watch . Insulin-dependent diabetics need to test their blood sugar before injecting themselves with insulin prior to each meal. The current process involves a painful and relatively expensive test (unless you have insurance) which is performed at least three times per day. To test their blood sugar, diabetics use a small needle called a lancet to draw a drop of blood which is then placed on a disposable test strip; this strip is inserted in a device called a glucometer. After processing for a few seconds, the result appears on the screen and it will determine how much insulin will be injected by the diabetic. While there are other companies working on wearable non-invasive blood sugar monitors, it seems that everyone has been looking for Apple to

The Huawei Watch 4 has an unusual health feature the Apple Watch has yet to pick up - Android Central

What you need to know A Huawei executive claims the newly launched Watch 4 has a blood glucose monitoring feature. Huawei says the smartwatch will alert the wearer when it detects irregular blood sugar levels. The watch is said to achieve this topically by using specific health indicators that can be read in as little as 60 seconds. Huawei claims that its new smartwatch has a non-invasive blood glucose tracking feature that uses only a set of health metrics and does not require any additional hardware. Yu Chengdong, Huawei’s consumer CEO, posted a demo video on Weibo showcasing how the new feature works. It should be noted that the Huawei Watch 4 does not function to provide blood sugar readings per se; it only alerts you when it detects that your blood sugar level is high and you may be at risk of hyperglycemia. Huawei’s promotional video shows that an alert will appear to display a hyperglycemia risk assessment for the wearer. The smartwatch does this by measuring "10

Huawei Watch 4 tracks blood sugar levels without ever drawing it - 9to5Google

The recently launched Huawei Watch 4 series comes with a newly unlocked ability to dive into the user’s blood sugar health, all without ever drawing a single drop. The Chinese company proudly claims this as an industry first. Smartwatch health really only goes so far – at least for right now. We’re used to seeing heart rate, sleep, and blood oxygen monitoring in most smartwatches on the market today. More recently, the Galaxy Watch series has finally started utilizing body temperature sensing . Those metrics generally have one thing in common – they can be measured topically. One thing that hasn’t historically been accessible non-invasively is blood sugar monitoring. According to Huawei, that’s changed the Huawei Watch 4 series, which has a new suite of features dedicated to measuring and painting blood sugar levels in those with diabetes or pre-diabetes. One such feature is Huawei’s hyperglycemic risk assessment, which aims to detect abnormal blood sugar levels to give off a warn
